Son Goku, often simply called Goku, is the main protagonist of the popular Japanese media franchise, Dragon Ball. He first appeared in the manga Dragon Ball Chapter #1 (released December 3, 1984).

Born Kakarot on Planet Vegeta, Goku is a Saiyan, an alien race known for their warrior culture and immense power. Sent to Earth as an infant to destroy it, he was found and raised by Grandpa Gohan, who gave him the name Goku.
